Choudhary Rehman,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], owner of many shops in the plazas near Fifth Road,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], says the embroidery on suits is mostly done in Moti Bazaar. "We sold a good number of these suits this season as they are the favourite among Pindi women. Their price could be anywhere between Rs1,700 and one lakh rupees," said Adnan, a salesman at one of the Choudhary's shops. The simple salwar kameez is definitely out, he adds.
Nilofar Zaheer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a housewife from Satellite Town bought a suit worth Rs50,000 for her daughter's wedding. "I am just going by the trend in order to look elegant and smart,'" she says. But to the middle class people weddings are a big blow financially.
"If I have to attend one more wedding I'll go mad," says Noreen,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the mother of five, reflecting a huge drain on family finances. This is because huge amounts of money are spent at every wedding on new outfits, shoes, etc. And also repeat sessions at beauty salons. Then oh my God, it's like a mad race. Wedding competition gets wild. Everybody wants a function that is extraordinarily showy than all weddings that have taken place so far.
The minute you enter the wedding, or the Mehndi, or the Valima, your eyes are charmed by the wonderfully shiny, eye-catching, novel, colourful, extra-grandiose décor! And this much is not enough, going to a wedding requires a gift of money to be made to the bride and groom to help them start their new life together. But your relationship with the newly married couple will swell your financial burden exceptionally; to the point that you might feel inclined to spend the money you saved for your children's college education just by attending several weddings in a row.
