With countdown leading up to the release of the Doernbecher x Nike Freestyle Collection on Friday,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Doerbecher Children's Hospital has released a variety of videos highlighting the children who participated in the project (link). As the youngest member of the 2012 participants,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Finningan Mooney was chose to design the Nike SB Dunk Hi,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], one of the most popular skate shoes in the world.
The image of a heart on the upper of the shoe represent the irrepressible will of Mooney,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who despite being only 10 years old,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], has already endure more than 13 heart surgeries in his young life. Even though he has had to endure so much more in 10 years than most people their entire lives,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Mooney has never been one to be down,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which is representative of the heart and the words "Thump Thump" by the heel.
"Finnigan Mooney (10) was born with Hypoplastic left heart syndrome. He's toughed out more than 13 heart surgeries during his life,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but his positive attitude and infectious sense of humor have remained unscathed. In addition to making new friends,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he loves playing basketball,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], jumping on his trampoline,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and perfecting his killer golf game. Finnigan's design is representative of his sunny personality and smile,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with an in-your-face yellow upper emblazoned with 'THUMP THUMP' to pay homage to his unstoppable heart. The Nike swoosh is affixed with medical stitches to symbolize the stitches from his surgeries. His actual thumbprint appears on the outsole of the shoe-a nod to how Finnigan would always give his parents a thumbs-up when he came out of surgery. And paying tribute to his Irish heritage,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Finnigan also included a shamrock on the tongue."
The Nike SB Dunk Hi will be available on Nov. 30 at select Nike Store locations and on their online store. All proceeds from the sales of the shoes will go to Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
