Lead researcher Rami Abboud conducted a small experiment involving 43 participants and three different brands of running shoes. The shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which ranged in price from £40 (about $80 Cdn.) to £75 (about $150 Cdn.),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], were stripped of logos and identifying brand labels.
Researchers measured the force created when the sole hits the ground,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], known as plantar pressure,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in the participants and found that cost was not linked to superior performance.
"It would appear from the shoes studied that performance,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in terms of cushioning,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is not related to cost. In fact,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], plantar pressure was lower overall in low- and medium-cost shoes than in high-cost shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," the study said.
