Ashok Kumar Adiga,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], President of the Parents' Association decided to take up a fight against the soaring hike in school education last year.
"What is the profit that schools are making; it's more than 100 per cent. They say building fees,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they say computer education,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], even bags are sold in schools for Rs 500-600, shoes are sold for Rs 1,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],400,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Kumar.
After the initiative by Kumar,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a circular from Karnataka Education Department said that tuition fees should not exceed a margin of 30 percent and schools should not charge any non-tuition fees till class V.
"Education means not mere reading and writing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you have to provide libraries, AV, sports,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], laboratory and other facilities, innumerable requirements,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said GS Sharma, President,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Karnataka Unaided School' Association.
"We have considered reasonably well what should be the fee structure. We are also seeking legal side and what we're saying, in any case,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], follow transparency,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Tushar Girinath,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Commissioner for Public Instruction.
The government order was issued after parents protested that they were being forced to buy school uniforms and school books from the schools at huge rates.
