China Chandni Chowk
Downtown Guangzhou and also the newly-built Asian Games city about the outskirts are like chalk and cheese. One is serene and sedate,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while the other is so much driven by business that as it were it feels a different country altogether.
A good 50 miles by metro from the Main Press Centre (MPC) for the Asian Games along with a couple of line-changes later one arrives at the Guangzhou Railway Station. Packed alleys much similar to our very own Chandni Chowks and Karol Baghs, albeit on the much larger scale milling tourists and businessmen from all across the world and a congenial atmosphere provide a different feel to the place.
Towering hotels,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], cheap accommodation,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to cater to everyone pocket, shoot up at each nook and cranny, but what holds the attention may be the the sizeable number of people from Africa and Gulf countries.
Burly men move around as though they lord over the place. Women to complement their male counterpart gait,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], haggle around for the greatest bargains on jewelleries, accessories, shoes and much more.
The place has the feel of a lawless state,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but police pickets and personnel on motorbikes give a a feeling of well-being. On a single corner is a restaurant proudly praoclaiming that they serve meat. An attractive girl with headscarf may come as a fresh of breath air. she says, and eyes get transfixed.
How on earth is she speaking Urdu in a place in which a majority cannot even converse in English! Nearby,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a businessman from Yemen and now settled in Saudi Arabia tucks into kebabs and drinks green tea. here on a business trip. He knows the place like the back of his hand perhaps a seasoned traveller.
We are told this is easily the most happening business destination and traders from India flock in big numbers to buy cheap products here and sell them at exorbitant price back home. Shopkeeper here speak good English; and when not, the Africans are at hand to bridge the language barrier.
A cafe or restaurant selling sea-food and drinks includes a of Indian businessmen chalking out their plans for the next day over a few portions of whisky. This place looks shady, I say. And promptly comes the reply. appears like a ghetto, but it safe. cargo and container companies dot the street, doing brisk business much after dusk sets in.
Dusk? What dusk? The area has just come alive. Another clients are unfolding a couple of blocks away.
That which was the point of this short article ?? I neglect to understand. There's nothing to agree or disagree but you wrote an item someone complain about within the vain that merely isn suitable for the atmosphere. I would look at this piece another some time and wouldn have minded. I don have any reason to suspect your interactions with Dev saab and also the contents you divulged. But, is time to write this?
I ended watching his movies after Johny Mera naam I was more of a Dilip Kumar fan from that era. But I still admire Dev Anand for who he was, Alert,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], active, trying to reinvent himself and always trying keep pace with the time. His presence and ego never bothered anyone, while he was Dev saab. There is something so special about him. Salute Dev Saab!!
Kanchhedia. I totally accept what you have written above. You have given a true and vivid description of Mr Dev Anand psyche almost. I've read his autobiography. He comes across as somebody who is not comfortable being an Indian, he would very much have preferred to become a British colonialist instead. Keep in mind that he was proud he could speak english without any accent. Dev was obviously quite conceited, and was certainly, in love with himself. He am certain he had thousands of female fans, and they all loved him and adored him. Obviously, he considered himself to become the Marlon Brando of India. I almost forgot to say that many of his films flopped in the box-office, just a few were successful in that very long, never- ending career. Such a guy.
Do get well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but spend some time doing this and read lots of books within the meanwhile My favourite books when I sick are family and other animals (it this type of happy happy book), and yes Cat within the Hat I know which makes me sound like I all of Ten years old, but so whether it is. It simply feels so nice to possess these books on my bedside table. And a handful of Wodehouse and Hercule Poirot complete the pile
We do hope you experiencing the sick period

Oh I better and back in the office now, Anamika, but thank you. Just have the remnants of the deathbed cough that scares the bejabbers from my colleagues, but that. Your sick list is LOVELY. I know that which you mean about Family My other comfort books are Daddy-Long-Legs by Jean Webster and 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff. Ever read those?

Daddy Long Legs is AMAZING!! It such a lovely book,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Oooh!! And Prisoner of Zenda. Bad all these books are in our Calcutta house gathering dust. Bookstores these days just don stock those traditional books. It all Hannah Montana etc.
Pure politics which smacks of imperial types of Israel, Iran and Saudi Arabia, Israelis feels threatened by Iran and so do the Saudis. However, the seemingly powerful forces of Zionism and Wahabism do not enjoy much support in the walk out. If the US is to leave the Gulf,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], both Saudi royal family and also the zionists would be dismantled within a few years by their own people.
