This can be a funny thing to understand, true. But it is what my brave colleague Brendan Kennedy and that i discovered whenever we threw our dignity to the wind on Thursday evening.
Inspired by the virally popular bleacher antics from the Vancouver Canucks beloved green men Force and Sully, we thought we try livening up the drowsy stands at the Rogers Centre with a little Cirque du Soleil-esque cavorting of our own. In the end, no one knows who behind those Technicolor leotards. I took a benefit to tradition sake; Brendan chosen the more contextually appropriate blue. We swallowed our pride, briefly contemplated stuffing our underpants, zipped up and off we went. Game time!
It remarkable how quickly one self-consciousness slips away once sealed in a RootSuit. It totally liberating. We hadn even went to check in wicket before a security guard named Tom zeroed in and gave us a spiel that will soon become very familiar: You are able to cover your face within the ballpark. Clearly, Brendan and I served no useful purpose travelling with this heads exposed and people bodysuits leaving nothing to the imagination. We actually did seem like knobs.
So, we zipped our heads back on, rose to the feet during the 7th-inning stretch and attempted to lead Section 231 in an interpretive dance to the Blue Jays theme song. Brendan was masterful, as graceful like a swan. The boy a natural, I tell you, yet he didn get a chance to share his gift with the masses for more than 2 or 3 minutes before more security arrived, this time with four cops with you, and that we were escorted from the building.
